Memorandum of association

Name
The name of the society shall be “Society for Bipolar Disorders-India” hereinafter called the ‘Society’ or SBID & its activities shall extend to whole of India.

Office of the Society
The Registered Office of the society shall be situated at Asha Hospital, No. 298, Road No.14, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad-500 034 (Andhra Pradesh), India.

Areas of operation will be all India

Aims & Objects
The society is being formed with the following objects:
To promote & advance the overall growth of psychiatry in India by:
  • a.Promoting & advancing psychiatry as a subject.
  • b.Promoting & advancing the clinical practice of psychiatry.
  • c.Promoting & advocating education and research in the field of psychiatry & mental health.
  • d.Promoting & advocating the professional needs of psychiatrists & other mental health professional especially those in the private & other non-governmental sectors.
  • e. Promoting & advocating the needs of persons suffering from mental disorders & protecting their rights.

  • To promote & improve mental health of people by
  • a. Promoting & carrying out mental health education.
  • b. Working towards removing the stigma attached to mental disorders.
  • c. Educating & influencing the media to :
  •      i. To improve the understanding of mental disorders & mental health issues in the general public.
  •      ii. Portray mental health issues in a positive way.
  •      iii. Promote & advocate the understanding of the problems & issues facing mental health professionals.

  • To stimulate the development of, & access to psychiatric & other mental health services in private, public or any other governmental sector.

    To promote & conduct activities for prevention & treatment of psychiatric disorders in order to control them, bring about early relief, prevent disabilities & rehabilitate those afflicted by these disorders.

    To promote as well as carry out activities for, as well as formulate, & advice standards of higher education & training for medical, non-medical & auxiliary personnel in psychiatry & related disciplines, & to recommend adequate teaching facilities for this purpose.

    To encourage, establish, formulate, lay-down, guide & advise on standards of ethical & good clinical & treatment practices in psychiatry & related disciplines.

    To formulate, lay-down, guide & advise on methods & standards of mental health care delivery system \ services, & carry out activities to achieve the same.

    To promote & advocate for:
  • a. The full realization of the rights of person with mental disorders.
  • b. Protection of the rights of persons with mental disorders.
  • c. Removal of discriminatory content in law & policy against persons with mental disorders.
  • d. Seek such amendments in existing rules & status, which further the basic rights of persons will mental disorders.
  • e. Express opinion on existing & proposed legislation on & in respect of laws pertaining to above, connected matters & to make representations in respect thereof.

  • To promote research in the field of mental health.

    To promote activities to enhance knowledge & professional expertise of the members of the society as well as of other professionals or other that the society may deem feet to reach.

    To safe guard & protect the professional interest of the members of the society, other psychiatrists, & fellow professionals in India.

    To advice about and make members of the society aware of their statutory & other rights & obligations, as well as about other relevant legal & administrative aspects of practice in the field of Psychiatry.

    To promote & advocate for:
  • a. Protection of the professional rights of member of the Society for Bipolar Disorders-India.
  • b. Removal of discriminatory contents in law & policy, if any, against the practice of psychiatry in any particular setting whether private or public.
  • c. Seek such amendments in existing rules & statues, which further & advance the clinical practice of psychiatry especially in the private & non-government setting.
  • d. Express opinion on existing & proposed legislation on and in respect of laws pertaining to above, & connected matters & to make representations in respect thereof.

  • To network with community, private state & central government, national or international agencies, social service organizations, business houses etc. for the advancement of the aims & objectives of the Society for Bipolar Disorders-India.

    To deal with any matters relating to the teaching & practice of psychiatry, or professional work of the members of the society, or wider social, national or international issues as long as they are cognate to the objectives of the Society for Bipolar Disorders-India

    To deal with any matters relating, mental health & to do other things as are cognate to the objectives of the Society for Bipolar Disorders-India.

    Methods
    For the attainment & in furtherance of the above objectives, the society may: -

    Hold periodical professional & scientific conferences, meetings symposia, workshops, or continuing medical education programmes etc. for the members of the society of the others.

    Generate, hold, lend, sell, or distribute databases, information or other knowledge by means of print, electronic or any other media (current or future).

    Print, publish, translate, sell, lend & distribute information whether in the form of periodical journal or books, monographs treatises or pamphlets & distribute the same among its members/nonmembers through any current or future medium.

    Publish annual or period reports of the society & from time to time publish a News Bulletin & a journal.

    Advocate with advice, or hold consultations with governmental, non-governmental, national, or international bodies on various aspects of psychiatry & mental health including legislative, administrative, educational, public health & research aspects.

    Network with, advocate with advise, hold consultations with, or work together with other like minded bodies whether these be governmental, non-governmental, national, international, private, public, social service, or business houses etc.

    To join become member of, or have joined & make member, co-opt or been opted or been opted to any organization as mention above, with similar objectives.

    To establish office(s), institute(s), hospital(s), health facilities: or centre of education, training & higher learning to further the objects of the society.

    Purchase or acquire on lease or otherwise any moveable or immovable property necessary or convenient for the objects & purpose of the society.

    Sell, improve, manage, develop, transfer, or dispose of any such property of the society.

    Collect subscription & donations; disburse funds for all or any of the objects of the society.

    To institute or create a corpus fund or any other special funds that may be considered necessary to further the objects of the society, to make rules & regulations for such funds & to amend or abolish such funds.

    Invest any money of the society not immediately required for any of its objects in such manner as may, from time to time, to be determined by the society.

    Create or assist in creating state & local branches or any of its objects or above purpose.

    Institute, maintain, & grant prizes, certificates, scholarships & other awards & distinctions.

    Do all such things & matter:
  • a. That relate to the teaching & practice of psychiatry; or professional work of the members of the society; mental health issues; or wider social, national or international issues; as long as they are cognate to the objectives of the Society for Bipolar Disorders-India.

  • b. As are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the objects of the society, or any which are subsidiary to the said objects.

  • All the income & property of the society, however derived, shall be applied wholly towards the promotion of the object thereof, as in this Memorandum of Association. In respect of the expenditure grants made by the state or Central Government or other national or international agencies to such limitation as the granting Government or agency may from time to time impose. No portion of the income & property of the society shall be otherwise to any persons claiming through any or more of them, provided that nothing herein contains or prevents the payment in good faith or remuneration to any member thereof other persons in return for any service rendered to the society.

    No members of the society shall have any personal claim on any moveable or immovable properties of the society or make any profit, whatsoever by virtue of his or her membership of the society.

    In the event of the winding up or dissolution of the society, if after the satisfaction of its debt & liabilities there shall remain any moneys or properties, the same shall not be paid to or distributed among many of the society be dealt with in such a manner as the management of the society may ……provided however that the assets are used in such a manner as to further as early as possible the objects for which the society has been establish.

    We, the undersigned whose names and addresses are given below having associated ourselves for the purpose described in this Memorandum of Association, do hereby subscribe our names to this Memorandum of Association.
